Which Selection Box?

Post by Himesh »

Great to see this forum back, I missed it last year for firework advice!

Diwali around the corner and for the last couple of years I've had the Jonathan's Gala selection box. I have a budget of around £70 and live in Leicester and work in Boston, Lincs. I have an 8 year-old boy and 5 year old girl who love the displays I put on (and secretly I love fireworks, the kids are just an excuse haha)

Should I stick with the Gala box or maybe try something from the Range? Or are there better options out there near to where I work or live?

I'd appreciate some opinions please.

Thankyou

Hi! The party box from the range has always been a staple in a lot of people’s displays, although it has increased in price the past few years it’s a brilliant box for a back garden, also well in your budget at £50 for 27 pieces. Or if any firework shops near you sell kimbolton see if they stock the gold selection box, most places stock it for £55 - £60 and it contains 23 items, kimbolton really is the rolls royce of the pyro world and you won’t be disappointed! Or if your wanting a mix of rockets, cakes, and a selection box morrisons sell a display pack for i think £70 - £75, i got it a couple years ago when it was £50 before all the price rises and it was quite good :)

I couldn’t put it better myself.

Don’t bother with any selection boxes from Aldi or Asda. The rockets in the goliath display pack from Morrisons are actually pretty decent. Better than you’d get in any of the other supermarkets.

Ah yes that’s what it was called the goliath pack. I agree with the rockets being decent, no war hawks but a decent bang with a nice variety of effects probably the best rockets i’ve had from a supermarket.

I had one of the Jonathan’s boxes last year and I thought it was absolutely brilliant for a garden selection box. My recommendation would be to stick to that. If you have any firework shops near you perhaps have a chat with them first and see if they can do you a deal - quite often they’ll throw in a freebie which won’t happen at any supermarket.

I’d steer clear of the boxes at the Range. The Party box used to be very good value but in the last couple of years they increased the price whilst at the same time lowering the powder content quite significantly so it’s no longer worth the money.

I’ve had the Kimbolton Gold a few years ago - this was very good too. I’ve heard they’ve changed it this year and there are some changes to the contents (in a good way!) but I am yet to see anyone offering this new box for sale. I’d pick Jonathan’s Gala over the Gold box but that’s just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm going to go to Sai Fireworks in Leicester.

Could you have a look and see what you think please? My budget is around £70 and the gala box is £62. Is this the best use of my budget for entertaining an 8 year old and 5 year old.

Thanks

That is a good price for the gala box and you’d struggle to get it cheaper. Personally I’d say that is your best bet.

Or your other option is to go for the Jamboree box which is one size down and the box I tried last year. That’s £42 on the website, leaving you with some cash to get a pack of rockets and a cake or a couple of cakes. You could try your luck and contact the shop owner, give them your budget and see if they’ll do you a deal - most will in my experience :D

I see space hawks are £20 that’s a good price so if you want a nice pack of big rockets give them a try
